Your horse trailer serves an important purpose and it’s crucial for the well-being of your animals and yourself that it stays as clean as possible. Although it’s not always an easy feat, there are ways to help make the process go more smoothly. Our team at Allan Dale Trailer & RVs has put together this list of helpful tips to keep your trailer clean!

Use the Right Supplies

It’s probable that many of the cleaners you’ll need will already be in your inventory, but it is essential to have the right cleaning supplies on hand. For items you don’t already have available, start with your local auto parts store! They’ll often have the best tools for what you need, including polish, brushes, rags, and more.

Keep in mind the material of your trailer and the bedding you use, as you may need specific supplies to tackle debris removal and prevent damage to the interior.

Cleaning the Floor

It’s no surprise that the floor of your trailer holds the most grime, odor, and cleaning labor. Beyond regularly removing muck, hay, and bedding, you will often need to deep clean the flooring.

Once the debris is removed, you’ll want to create a safe cleaning mixture. This can include bleach, as long as you create a ratio that contains at least ten parts water. Allow whatever cleaning mixture you use to soak for at least ten minutes! Then you can scrub away the grime, rinse, and allow it to completely dry before the next use.

Another helpful tip is to park your trailer on an incline so the water can easily be drained.

Deep Clean in Order

If you’re focusing on a deep clean that includes the ceiling, hinges, windows, etc., it’s imperative to start from the top and work your way down! As you clean, you’ll knock away dirt and dust. You don’t want to have the floor spotless only to get the grime from the walls on it afterward!
